CPCU stands for Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter. As with professional designations in other fields, such as the CPA in accounting, the CPCU is awarded to individuals willing to go beyond the normal requirements of their profession.
Education is the cornerstone of the CPCU designation. CPCU involves a program of formal study which focuses on insurance but covers much more, including accounting, management, ethics, and law. Ten college-level courses and national essay examinations provide CPCUs with the qualifications necessary to provide sound advice in today's complex economic environment.
